The moment of Independence Day is the right time to embed the spirit of heroism. It was what had been done by Widya Kartika University’s New Student Committee (Pemba) 2012. They held a game of “Help The Blind” on Heroes Monument (Tugu Pahlawan) yard.

This activity was one of the programs which were held to introduce the new campus to the students. “Hazing (perploncoan) is no longer relevant. There are many elegant ways that can be used to describe the world of college to the freshmen. And keep in mind, these activities should also be able to teach good values?”, said Evans Tantular, the Chairman of these activities.

The series of activities of UWIKA’s Pemba had entered the final day. Today, Thursday, August 16, 2012, the committee organized a rally games on some places, Taman Bungkul, Monument of Heroes, and the East Coast. The games that were played also were also different at each location.

In the Taman Bungkul, the committee held a Photo Hunting. Participants were asked to take a picture of an object. However, the Committee did not expressly mention the name of the object. “We only give a certain clue that leads them to the thing,” he said.

At the next location, participants were asked to play “Help the Blind.”Heat of the sun in Monument Heroes did not fade the spirit of the participants. In the game, each group formed a line. Each participant had to wear blinder. Thus, they couldn’t see. “Only the last man at the back of the participants who did not wear the blinder,” added Evans.

During the game, participants were not allowed to communicate both verbally and gesture. They were only given plastic rope to grip, which connected each participant. By doing so, they could send commands among participants.

Well, the instructions were given to the participant at the front so he could do well since the one in front had had to take a card on the field, said Evans.

Stefany Ely, one of the participants said, the most difficult thing experienced in the game was to build solidarity because she had to try to deliver the orders through a rope without speaking. “Hence, we should be able to work together,” said the freshman from Accounting Department.

Evan explained, each card which was collected would be considered as points. The points would be useful in the next game on the East Coast. There, each group would be put in ranks based on the points. The first rank got the biggest capital. “On the East Coast, we want to foster our entrepreneurial spirit,” he added. The game itself was called survival games.

Technically, each group was given an amount of capital. That money could be used to buy any item. Furthermore, participants had to sell back the item in order to gain profit. This was where creativity took effort. The more creative the participants were the more profit they would get. “The profit will be given to the group,” he concluded.
