Once again, UWIKA’s students carved achievements which made the university proud. A pair of dancers “swept” the first rank of beginner class in a prestigious dance world championship. In total, five medals from the event 10th Crystal Dancesport Championships 2012 were taken home.

They were Ervina Lukmanto and Dedy Perwira Rahadjo. Students majoring in Chinese language and Accounting won in the categories of Beginner Chacha, Beginner Samba, Beginner Paso Double, Beginner Jive, and Beginner Rumba. The annual dance competition was held on August 26, 2012 at Manhattan Grand Ballroom, Berjaya Times Square Hotel, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

For Dedy, the championship was the first world-class event that he ever followed, and for the first time he felt the heat of the competition atmosphere which were also followed by dancers from around the world. “It is the first time (the world championships) and win. I’m very happy with it, “he explained.

10th Crystal Dancesport Championships is an annual event. An activity which is initiated by Word Dance Academy was held once to commemorate the independence day of Negeri Jiran (Malaysia). This year, the committee reported that there were over 400 participants who took part. They came from different parts of the world starting with Asia, such as Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Singapore, to eastern and European parts of the world, such as Turkey, Brazil, and Italy. Next year, the championship is scheduled to be held on August 4, 2013 at the same place.

Dedy was proud to bring Uwika name. But, he’s even more proud to be Indonesia’s representative in the world dance scene. “You see, dancer has to mention where he comes from (country) during the registration,” he said.

Actually, Dedy himself intended to follow other classes beside the beginner, the solo category. But he failed to do due to consideration of the number of competitors and stamina. According to him, in the dancing competition, in addition to techniques, participants should also consider stamina. “If I am also a solo, probably I can not dance optimally because the championship was done continuously,” he added.

Meanwhile, Dedy’s partner, Ervina Lukmanto, is currently completing his studies in China. “After the competition has finished, he went back there (China),” said Dedy.
