The Procession of position handover (sertijab) of Commander Marine Forces-1 (Danpasmar-1) in Bumi Marinir Karangpilang Surabaya Tuesday, August 28, 2012 took place merrily. Rector of the University of Widya Kartika (Uwika) Dr. Ir. Gembong Baskoro, M.Sc., got the opportunity to attend an event involving thousands of Navy Marines.
The activities marked the transfer of the Marines’ reins of leadership. The event which was led by Commander of the Marine Corps (Dankomar) Maj. Gen. (Mar) M. Alfan Baharudin ran solemnly. Thus, the position of Danpasmar-1 officially handed-over. From Brigadier General (Mar) Tommy Basari Natanegara replaced by new official, Colonel (Mar) R. Billy Suprapto.
Before appointed as Danpasmar-1, Col. (Mar) R. Billy Suprapto had served as Chief of Staff Pasmar-2. Meanwhile, Brigadier General (Mar) Tommy Basari Natanegara himself would carry a new assignment as the Staff Chief of the Marine Corps.
The Procession of position handover was filled by number of outstanding attractions. The soldiers demonstrated their abilities in front of the Marines and Muspida Surabaya-Sidoarjo leaders. Various activities were started with explosions. Then, the number of combat material owned by Pasmar-1 was in action. Combat vehicles (ranpur), tanks, howitzers and cannon showed skill. Then, the procession continued to by the attractions of around 3,000 soldiers of the Marine Corps Navy vigorously.
In his speech, Dankomar Maj. Gen. (Mar) M. Alfan Baharudin said they were proud of the purple beret corps troops. According to him, changing official among soldiers was a normal thing because it had become a part of coaching for personnel continuously. “This is also a form of ‘tour of duty’ and a ‘tour of the area’,” he said.
After the military ceremony was completed, the event continued with suave with the invited guests. In this occasion, the Rector of Uwika Dr. Ir. Gembong Baskoro, M.Sc., congratulated Danpasmar-1 Colonel (Mar) R. Billy Suprapto and wife. “Good luck for the new task,” he said. Colonel (Mar) R. Billy Suprapto was a good friend of the Rector when they were both studying in Lemhannas RI.
